The Fidgeting Toys Diary - Part 1.
Are you a person who likes to fidget with things when talking?
I'm a huge fan of fidget toys, especially in therapy, and they offer numerous benefits.
The sound of the pop as you start talking about the essential parts of your life, and as you listen to the noise, the words you make sound so much clearer; things make so much more sense to you as you figure out what you want to say.
You can breathe out a sigh of release, and you can feel some of the tension melt away in the moment.
However, it’s something about the texture, the specific kind of toy that you are figeting with, and how you are feeling about your session. It's so important to figure out where to go with your thoughts, but also what to do when you are feeling a little anxious in that space.
One pop, two pop, three pops, four. Then I see slight smiles on my clients' faces, and they feel free to share those pieces of their life, and I’m happy they realize that it’s okay to use these fidget toys whenever they need them.
You don’t need any permission to ask for a toy or bring one with you to the session; this is about you and your needs. I appreciate it when my clients look through my fidgeting toy collection and figure out what they need out of it. I get so excited that I’ll take one out myself and start popping them as well.
The excitement, the freedom - what’s your favorite fighting toy to use in session? I feel like they make great conversation starters.
Don’t let anxiety get in your way, because there is always a fidgeting toy for you to use in the space.
